Catherine Austin Fitts is an American investment banker and former public official. She is president of Solari, publisher of the Solari Report, and managing member of Solari Investment Screens (formerly known as Solari Investment Advisory Services).[1][2]
At some point, Fitts attended the Yale-China Chinese Language Centre in Hong Kong. She graduated from Bennett College in 1970.[3]
Fitts graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts in History.
Fitts graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with her Master of Business Administration in 1978.[3:1]
Fitts worked as a summer research assistant at Harvard Business School in 1969. She worked a variety of jobs in cleaning, painting and hospitality from 1970-1976. She clerked at Santa Fe National Bank in the summer of 1976, and interned at Goldman Sachs the following summer.[3:2]
Fitts began working at Dillon, Read & Co. as an associate in 1978. She was promoted to vice president in 1982 and senior vice president in 1984, ultimately joining the board of directors in 1986. From 1986 to 1989, she served as managing director.[3:3]
From 1989-1990, Fitts served as Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development for Housing at the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development in the administration of President George H.W. Bush.[3:4]
Fitts served as president of the Hamilton Securities Group from 1991-1998.[3:5]
Fitts founded Solari, Inc. as a Delaware corporation in 1994, and the company became operational on March 22, 1998.[4]
In the fall of 1995, Fitts conducted a sabbatical at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).[3:6]
Fitts was a member of the Global Business Network's "Worldview" from 1996-1997, and served on the advisory board for The Arlington Institute from June 1998 to June 2000.[5]
On December 5, 2001, Fitts spoke at a Drug Policy Forum hosted by the New York Times. She described her efforts to "seed a network of neighborhood knowledge managers called solaris," which is "a for profit community databank that is controlled locally that circulates neighborhood financial statements and tracks the Solari Index in that area."[6]
On June 10, 2002, Fitts participated in launching Unanswered Questions at an event at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. She, along with co-chair Kyle Hence, "opened the conference with probing event background and an intro to questions that remain unanswered," dealing with "9/11 issues other than airline safety."[7] Audio from the event is available here.
Fitts incorporated Solari in the State of Tennessee on March 26, 2007.[8]
