Gracia C. Martore is an American business executive. She currently serves as chair of the Associated Press[1] and a member of the board of directors for WestRock.[2]
She is married to Joseph Martore, a major government contractor.[3][4][5]
Martore graduated from Wellesley College with a double major in history and political science.[6]
After graduating, Martore was offered a job at a Boston-area bank. In 1979, she moved to Washington, D.C. and worked at Maryland National Bank.[4:1] She remained in the banking industry for 12 years.[7][8]
Starting in 1985, Martore served in various leadership positions including Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President, and Chief Financial Officer of Tegna, formerly part of Gannett.[8:1][7:1]
Martore was appointed as President and CEO of Tegna in October 2011.[7:2] She was elected to the board of directors of the Associated Press (AP) in 2013,[9] and in October 2014, joined the board for the Paley Center for Media.[6:1]
In July 2016, Martore was elected to the board of trustees of Wellesley College.[7:3]
Martore announced in May 2017 that she would retire from her leadership position at Tegna.[10] She joined the board of directors of United Rentals on June 2, 2017.[7:4] On July 18, 2017, Omnicom Group announced it had appointed Martore to the company's board of directors.[8:2]
She later became vice chair of AP, and was elevated to the role of chair in April 2022.[9:1]
