The Associated Press (AP) is an American not-for-profit news agency based in New York City.
On April 24, 2019, the AP announced the launch of the creation of a Global Religion Journalism Initiative, which it described as "an effort to expand religion news reporting in the U.S. and around the world." The project was to be a partnership between the AP, the Religion News Foundation (RNF), Religion News Service (RNS) and The Conversation, funded by a $4.9 million grant to the RNF from the Lilly Endowment. Katie Garcia of Athene Strategies was named as a media contact on the AP's press release.[1]
On December 15, 2022, the AP announced a new "democracy journalism initiative" focused on "covering democracy in the U.S. with the goal of helping an increasingly polarized public better understand their government." Funding for the initiative is provided by the Lilly Endowment, Jonathan Logan Family Foundation (via Journalism Funding Partners), William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.[2]
On October 18, 2023, the AP published an article titled "RFK Jr. spent years stoking fear and mistrust of vaccines. These people were hurt by his work" criticizing Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Children's Health Defense, Skyhorse Publishing and Edward Dowd's book, Cause Unknown.[3]
The AP is a member of the Trusted News Initiative (TNI)[4] and the Northeast Business Group on Health.[5]
