Alchem Laboratories is an American pharmaceutical research company based in Alachua, Florida.
On January 4, 2020, Alchem's Chief Medical Officer Robert Malone received a call from Michael Callahan informing him about the emerging SARS-CoV-2 outbreak in Wuhan, China.[1] By this time, Malone was working with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA)'s Discovery of Medical Countermeasures Against Novel Entities (DOMANE) program, through which Malone began investigating famotidine as a possible treatment against COVID-19.[2][3] On April 14, the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) awarded Alchem Laboratories a $20.7 million contract the conduct a clinical trial on the drug.
Alchem is a member of the Medical CBRN Defense Consortium.[4]
